
The Marshall High School baseball team lost both games of its triangular, falling to Oak Grove 24-10 and Summit Christian Academy 6-3.
The Owls got in a slug-fest with the Panther to kick off the day, as both teams combined for 34 runs on 30 hits. Oak Grove got off to a hot start, scoring three runs in the first. six in the second, and three more in the third. The Panthers were quiet in the fourth, by the bat came alive again with three more runs in the fifth and nine more in the sixth.
Marshall’s bats kept them in the game, scoring two runs in the first, five in the second, and one more in the third. Marshall got two runs back in the fifth, but ran out of gas before falling in six innings.
Ian Miles picked up the loss, giving up eleven runs on eight hits and three walks in two innings of work. Miles also hit a solo homer and walked twice.
The Owls then got into a pitchers’ duel against Summit Christian. Both teams traded runs in the third inning, with the Eagles scoring a run on a fielder’s choice, and the Owls plating a run on an RBI groundout from Wyatt Griffitt.
Marshall finally broke in the fifth inning, as the Eagles brought home four runs to finally break the tie. Marshall got two runs back in the sixth, but couldn’t get anything else against Eagles starter Mason Kates, who pitched a complete game for the win.
The Owls drop to 1-10 on the season. The owls will be back in action on Tuesday, April 22 to host Kirksville for an NCMC clash. Pregame will begin at 4:50, with first pitch at 5 p.m. on KMMO AM 1300 and on KMMO.com.
