The Kansas City Chiefs shuffled down a spot to make the last pick of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft late Thursday, April 24 in Green Bay, selecting an offensive lineman.
The Chiefs selected Josh Simmons of Ohio State, who started 19 games over the past two seasons. Simmons is coming back from a knee injury, which he suffered six games into the Buckeyes’ national championship campaign. Simmons played left tackle for the Buckeyes and is expected to compete for the starting role in that spot, which was the Chiefs’ Achilles heel last season, dooming the three-peat attempt when the Philadelphia Eagles exploited it in the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs traded with Philadelphia to move down a spot, also acquiring a fifth-round pick in the deal. The second and third rounds are Friday in Green Bay, with the Chiefs currently holding picks 63, 66 and 95. They’ll have five picks on Saturday, including the oft-celebrated Mister Irrelevant pick, the last spot in the draft. The Chiefs had this spot in 2009, when they selected kicker Ryan Succop.
Also at the draft, the Missouri Tigers are celebrating the selection of offensive lineman Armond Membou, who went seventh overall to the New York Jets. Membou is the 22nd Mizzou Tiger selected in the first round, and ties for the second-highest overall draft pick in program history. Luther Burden III did not hear his name called Thursday among the 15 selections from SEC programs, including three each from Texas and Georgia.
Elsewhere, Westminster College alumnus James Gladstone made a splash in his first draft as the new general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacksonville traded with Cleveland to move up to the second overall pick, which the Jags used to select Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter from Colorado.
