The Saline County Economic Development tax is helping one area community upgrade their water system, one meter at a time.
The City of Miami has used their share of revenue from the one-half cent sales tax to replace aging pipes and meters across the city. City Clerk Liz Elson says the upgrades have gone in gradually over the past five years.
The upgrades have also helped to trim Miami’s loss rate significantly.
Elson anticipates another two years until the final upgrades are completed. She adds that Miami will turn its attention to their streets once the overhaul of the city’s water system is complete.
