The Hannibal Pirates overcame a two run deficit in the seventh inning, then scored four in the ninth to come away with a 9-5 victory over Marshall on Tuesday, April 29.
Hannibal got on the board first, scoring a run off of Brock Marshall in the first. The Owls would get that run back after Logan Kirchhoff hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
The Owls took the lead in the second after an RBI single from Wyatt Griffitt.
The Pirates took a 3-2 lead in the third after cashing in on a bases loaded opportunity. The Owls responded with two runs over their own in the third to regain the lead. Marshall would add to their lead with another run in the fourth to make it 5-3.
The Owls had the Pirates down to their final out in the top of the seventh, but Konnor Asbury hit a game-tying RBI single to tie the game 5-5.
MHS had opportunities with the wining run in scoring position in the seventh and eighth, but couldn’t bring them home. Hannibal finally got to reliever Brody Kueker in the ninth, tagging him for four runs on two hits. Hannibal’s rally was also aided by several defensive miscues from the Owls.
The Owls fall to 1-14 on the season. They’ll be back in action on Friday, May 2, when they take on the Moberly Spartans at 5 p.m.
