Use tax collections during March in Saline County burst higher 31 percent from the previous year, while sales tax collections for the month dropped 12 percent.

The figures from the Missouri Department of Revenue were presented earlier this month by Saline County Treasurer Jared Brewer. They showed use tax collections in Saline County during March, which were remitted to the county in early April, totaling $126,832.65. It’s a record month for Saline County and the fifth instance of a month exceeding $100,000 collected. The surge was a net gain from the previous month by $28,865.44.

While use tax collections jumped in March, sales tax totals fell by double-digits. Saline County collected $104,930.90, a drop of $5969.57 compared to the previous month and $14,698.40 below a year ago. Similar totals were reported for the county’s economic development and law enforcement taxes.

After four months, Saline County has collected over $447,000 each in sales tax, economic development and law enforcement taxes, along with $400,940.52 in use tax collections.
