The late police chief of Lake Lafayette will be among six names added and honored during a series of services this weekend in Jefferson City.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety will add the name of Stephen A Singer to the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial, and conduct two public services this weekend to honor the sacrifices of Singer and others who have fallen in the line of duty. Singer suffered a heart attack in his home and died April 8, 2024, the morning after he had pursued several trespassing suspects who had driven UTVs near the Lake Lafayette dam. The services will also recognize Officer Cody Allen of Independence, Officer Phylicia Carson of Osage Beach, and Officer David Lee III of the St Louis Metropolitan Police. Two historic deaths recently confirmed as being line-in-duty will also be remembered, those of Marshal Noah Bowles of Lewistown in 1904 and the Webb City Police Chief George Hooper in 1918. Their names will be among 752 officers across Missouri who have died in the line of duty.

The ceremonies will begin with a candlelight vigil at the memorial on the north side of the State Capitol building in Jefferson City beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2. A memorial service for the fallen officers will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the event moving into the Capitol in the event of inclement weather. Governor Mike Kehoe and Attorney General Andrew Bailey are among the listed speakers. The Missouri Department of Public Safety’s Facebook page will livestream Saturday’s service.

As part of this weekend’s services, Governor Kehoe has directed the capitol dome to shine blue from Friday until Sunday, May 4.
