Students, staff and alumni of the Santa Fe R-X Schools are reflecting on the life of Greg Prather, following his death Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the age of 83.

Prather’s career in education began in Northwest Missouri but featured 25 years as Santa Fe’s superintendent, and saw him remain in the area after his retirement. Current superintendent Derek Lark says that Prather was the ultimate Santa Fe Chief.

Lark says Prather and his wife Donnis remained regulars at Santa Fe sporting events after retirement, and that he would visit with them at several of those contests.

Greg Prather served as superintendent of Santa Fe Schools for 25 years. The Greg Prather Gymnasium was named in his honor after its completion in 2005. The gymnasium will serve as the site of Prather’s visitation Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5 until 8 p.m. His funeral will also take place at the high school Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m.
