Gray scattered two hits and a walk through his seven innings, striking out eight batters along the way.
Lars Nootbar drove in the first run with a single in the third. Masyn Winn added to the lead with an RBI double, driving home Nootbar. Winn had another RBI double in the fifth to make it 3-0.
Jordan Walker drove home two more in the eighth with a single to make it 5-0.
Kyle Leahy and Chris Roycroft finished off the Pirates in the eighth and ninth to complete the series sweep for St. Louis.
The Cardinals get back to .500 (19-19) with the win. After a 5-1 home-stand, the Cardinals are back on the road to take on the Washington Nationals. First pitch is at 5:45 p.m.
