The Slater City Council approved a renewal of its trash service contract with Rural Trash Service (RTS) during its meeting on Tuesday.
The council received three renewal options from RTS and first reviewed them during its meeting on April 14. All three options from RTS presented an increase in rates for the city and customers. The first option was a flat increase to $15. The middle option was an increase to $14, with the condition of giving RTS exclusivity on commercial accounts. The last option was an increase to $13, but the city would have to give RTS exclusivity on commercial accounts and roll-offs.
After some discussion, the council decided to move forward with the middle option of $14. City Administrator Gene Griffith explained that with trash rates increasing to $14, and the city charging an additional $1.50, customers will see their monthly charge increase to $15.50 effective June 1.
In other news, Mayor Terry Jordan reminded residents about a Rabies Shot clinic the city is hosting on Thursday, May 8. The event will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Slater Volkfest Building. The cost is $20 per animal.
