The Kansas City Royals defeated the Boston Red Sox 2-1 in a 12 inning battle on Friday.

The game was scoreless heading into extras. Boston would get on the board first with an RBI groundout from Rafael Devers in the eleventh.

Vinnie Pasquantino tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single. Freddy Fermin would be the hero in the bottom of the 12th, drilling a walk-off RBI single to give the Royals their seventh straight win.

Michael Lorenzen went seven scoreless innings, only allowing three hits, but received a no-decision for his efforts.

The Royals improve to 24-16, remaining 2.5 games back of Detroit in the AL Central. Kansas City will continue its series with Boston on Saturday, May 10. Cole Ragans gets the start for the Royals. Pregame coverage begins at 5:30 p.m., with first pitch at 6:10 on KMMO FM 102.9.
