The St. Louis Cardinals had their nine-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, May 14.

The game was scoreless through six innings as both teams got excellent outings from their starters. Erick Fedde went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and four walks without allowing a run.

Jordan Walker got St. Louis on the board in the seventh with an RBI single. Bryson Stott would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single of his own. Bryce Harper broke the tie with a bloop single to center field, making it 2-1.

Both runs were charged to Steven Matz, who also gave up four hits in his 1 2/3 innings of relief.

The Cardinals had opportunities to score, but the Philadelphia bullpen held strong to preserve the lead.

St. Louis falls to 23-20 on the season. They’re back in action today to for the second game of its double-header against the Phillies. First pitch begins at 5:15 p.m.
