The Pettis County R-V Board of Education received an update during their May meeting on efforts to recruit bus drivers and fill staff vacancies.
Supt. Dr Amy Fagg tells KMMO News that while the district’s bus routes are covered, they are still in need of additional drivers to handle field trips and taking competitive teams to away games. She adds that several other schools in the area are also experiencing driver shortages, and encourages anyone interested in becoming a bus driver to contact her at the Northwest R-V School offices in Hughesville. Also during her report, Fagg noted that Northwest was still in need of a new music teacher.
Board members also discussed the situation concerning water leaking into the emergency shelter at the Houstonia campus. Fagg says the district is working with the Pettis County Emergency Management Agency to address the situation. The board also received an update on the district’s facility management analysis, which Fagg says will help the district estimate maintenance costs for the next decade.
The Northwest R-V board did take two items of action. First, they agreed to have Gerding, Korte and Chitwood conduct the district’s audit for fiscal year 2026. Second, they approved making the third Wednesday of each month the regular date for future board meetings. That makes the next Northwest R-V school board meeting June 18.
