
State Fair Community College has announced the recipients of its 2024-25 Writing Scholarship Awards: Sunny Morris and Dametriuz Hernandez-Smith.
Morris, who is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in agriculture, earned second place for her essay, “Love Weighed Against Loss.” She was nominated by Randy Crawshaw, SFCC English instructor. Morris received a $250 scholarship and is an active member of the Horticulture Club.
Hernandez-Smith won first place and a $500 scholarship for his essay, “The Rhythm of Growth.” He is working toward an Associate of Arts degree and is active in SFCC’s TRiO program. He was nominated by English instructor Dr. Amanda Drake.
Each year, SFCC English Composition I and II and literature instructors nominate standout essays from fall and spring semester courses. A faculty and staff panel independently reviews and ranks the top submissions for scholarship recognition.
