The Saline County Composite Squadron of the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol hosted the annual Memorial Day Observance Service on the Marshall Square on Monday, May 27.

Following the presentation of the colors and an opening prayer by Paul List, Chris Post spoke about the importance of remembering and honoring the military personnel who have fallen while serving.

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day to honor those who were lost in the Civil War, but it was changed after World War 1 to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars. Memorial Day became an official federal holiday in 1971.
