The Kansas City Royals overcame an early deficit and defeated the Minnesota Twins in extra-innings 2-1 on Sunday, May 25.

The Twins scored a first inning run off of Kris Bubic with an RBI single from Ty France, but that would be the only damage he allowed. Bubic went seven innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while finishing with nine strikeouts.

The Royals couldn’t get on the board until the seventh inning, when Freddy Fermin drove home the tying run with a double.

Both bullpen were excellent later in the game, forcing extra innings in Minnesota. Kansas City finally broke the deadlock in the tenth after Maikel Garcia drove home the eventual winning run with a base hit. Taylor Clark closed out the game in the tenth for his first save of the year.

The Royals improve to 29-25, currently sitting fourth in the AL Central and five games back of Detroit.

The Royals now return home to host the Cincinnati Reds for the start of a three game series. Pregame coverage begins at 2:30, with first pitch at 3:10 p.m. on KMMO FM 102.9.
