The Oak Grove Panthers Scholar Bowl team finished 262nd out of 336 teams at this past weekend’s High School National Championship Tournament, compiling a record of 4-6 in Atlanta.

After posting a 3-4 record Saturday, the Panthers needed to win all three of their remaining preliminary round contests Sunday morning to break into the playoffs. That would not come to pass, following a 345-140 loss to Mandeville, La. A 240-55 win over Carroll County, Va in their next game gave Oak Grove a shot to finish with a .500 record, but the Panthers would only claim six tossups and 40 points on bonus questions in their 195-105 loss to Spring Valley, their third matchup with the school from South Carolina as a result of the tournament’s power-matched scheduling.

Junior Chase Rinehart led the Panthers with 36.04 points per 20 tossups heard, ranking him sixth-best among players from Missouri. Senior Jean Quiviron added 22.52 points per contest, including three of Oak Grove’s six powers, additional points earned when a tossup is correctly answered early.

Two Missouri schools advanced to Sunday afternoon’s playoffs. Mexico finished tied for 21st with a 9-5 record, while Lee’s Summit West went 6-5 to finish 97th.
