The St Louis Cardinals rallied for three runs in the eighth to put away the Baltimore Orioles 7-4 on Tuesday, May 27 at Camden Yards.

Nolan Arenado had the game-winning home run, a shot to Baltimore’s “Bird Bath” beyond the center field fence, with one out in the eighth inning. The Redbirds then added to the lead with Jordan Walker’s triple bringing in Jose Barrero, then a single from Masyn Winn that scored Walker. The Cardinals had scored in the top of the first with an RBI single from Willson Contreras, following by a two-run home run from Lars Nootbaar in the second, his eighth of the season. Baltimore got on the ball when Heston Kjerstad reached first to spoil the Cardinals’ attempt to end the fourth with a double play with the bases loaded. The Orioles would take the lead with a three-run home run in the next inning from Ryan O’Hearn.

Andre Pallante had the no-decision after 5.2 innings of work, allowing all four Oriole runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Steven Matz picked up his third win of the year with his 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit and claiming one punchout. Ryan Helsley notched his 11th save of the year. The Cardinals collected 14 hits and went five-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

The Cardinals sit at 31-24, three games behind the Cubs for the NL Central year but now tied with San Francisco for the third wild card spot. They’ll seek to claim the series win when Miles Mikolas gets the start this (Wednesday) evening; first pitch is at 5:35 p.m.
