The Kansas City Royals claimed two runs off Brady Singer in the second, but the former Royal produced a gem by going seven innings in the Cincinnati Reds’ 7-2 win Tuesday, May 27 at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals scored on two-out singles up the middle from Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India that gave KC the lead. But then Singer and the Reds defense clamped down. Despite allowing seven hits and a walk, Singer retired ten batters in a row and recorded three strikeouts to claim the win. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Daniel Lynch IV and the six relievers that followed struggled to keep the Reds off the board, in spite of Cincinnati going 0-for-6 in scoring position. Lynch gave up a home run in the top of the second to Tyler Stephenson, one of his three hits on the evening. He struck out four while walking one.

Taylor Clarke was tagged with the loss, also going 2.2 innings and allowing Elly de la Cruz’s go-ahead home run in the sixth, his second of the game. That was the only hit Clarke allowed as he recorded three strikeouts. The game got out of hand in the eighth, when John Schreiber allowed three runs on two hits, as well as three walks, while recording just one strikeout. He was also charged with a fielding error.

The Royals are now 29-27, seven games behind Detroit in the AL Central and now one game behind Cleveland and Houston for the third wild card spot. They look to avoid the sweep Wednesday evening when Noah Cameron returns to the mound. First pitch is at 6:40 p.m., with pregame beginning at 6 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
