The Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education approved the low bid at last week’s meeting for work to renovate the future site of the district’s central offices.

Board members accepted the low bid of $2,779,000 from Klassen Construction of Clinton, the only one of the five bids that came in under $3 million. Superintendent Doctor Todd Fraley says the district’s decision to handle their own demolition work has paid off.

The new central offices are located at 1700 South Lafayette in a former medical building. Fraley says he expects work to begin July 1.

Also last week, the board accepted a pair of donations, including an in-kind contribution from Inter-State Studio.

The board approved two pavement project bids at Smith-Cotton High School. Ramey Construction will work on the east bus lane and three other high traffic locations, along with additional concrete work around the district, for a total project cost of $288,588. Capital Paving won the bid for the asphalt project totaling $448,000. Seven change orders for renovations at Smith-Cotton Junior High and Sedalia Middle School were also approved, for a net total of $284,972.81. The board also agreed to add a custodial position at Sedalia Middle School.
