St Louis City SC has relieved head coach Olaf Mellberg of his duties after just 15 league games in charge.

The Major League Soccer side announced Mellberg’s departure Tuesday night, days after City’s winless streak in MLS play hit 11 games with a 1-0 loss at Colorado. The team started with two wins and two draws but has since fallen to 14th in the Western Conference, only collecting three points in the past two months. The club has promoted CITY2 head coach David Critchley the first team’s interim manager, and will lead the squad into Saturday’s home game at Energizer Park against San Jose.

Mellberg was hired in November after nine years of managerial experience in his native Sweden, replacing Bradley Carnell, who himself was dismissed last July after City’s 2024 season didn’t keep pace with their inaugural 17-win campaign in 2023.
