A Masyn Winn double and two-run home run by Brendan Donovan lifted the St Louis Cardinals to a 6-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, May 28, allowing the Redbirds to claim two out of three on the road at Camden Yards.

Winn’s double to left field came with no outs in the fifth and scored Lars Nootbaar. Donovan then launched a full-count sweeper over the right-field fence to give the Cardinals the lead for good. Winn and Donovan led the Cardinals offense, with Winn going four-for-five, including a lead-off double in the seventh to setup the Cardinals’ final run of the game, and Donovan going three-for-five.

The Orioles had jumped onto the board in the second inning with three runs. The Cardinals broke through in the top of the fourth with Jordan Walker’s single that scored Winn and Donovan. Dylan Carlson responded with an RBI single in the home half of the fourth to make the score 4-2, but Baltimore would not add to their total, as five Cardinals relievers combined to strike out nine batters and allow just three hits and a pair of walks.

The win went to John King, who has two of these strikeouts in the sixth to get his second victory of the season. Mikes Mikolas went four innings in the no-decision, allowing all four runs on nine hits with three punchouts. Ryan Helsley earned his 12th save of the year, allowing a pair of hits.

The Cardinals remain three games behind the Cubs for the NL Central lead, with their 32-24 record placing them tied for the second wildcard position with San Diego. St Louis have the day off as they travel to Texas for a three-game series against the Rangers. Matthew Liberatore will get the start for the Cardinals when they take the field at Globe Life Field on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
