Seth Lugo’s first outing back from the injured list didn’t go to plan, as the Detroit Tigers belted a pair of homers against him in a 7-5 win over Kansas City on Friday, May 30.
Lugo allowed a pair of two-run home runs in the first two innings, allowing Detroit to take an early lead. The Royals kept the game close, with Bobby Witt Jr. drilling his six homer of the season and Drew Waters driving home two with a single in the third.
Lugo lasted just 3.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks.
Kansas City got within one in the seventh when Mark Canha drove in a run with a sac fly. The momentum was short-lived, as the Tigers got a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning to make it 7-4. Drew Waters got another RBI single in the ninth, but the comeback fell short with the tying-run on base as Canha grounded out to end the game.
The Royals fall to 30-28, good for fourth in the AL Central and eight games back of Detroit. The series continues today with a 3:10 p.m. start. Michael Wacha will face Tarik Skubal. Pregame begins at 2:30 on KMMO FM 102.9.
