The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has issued a final hazardous waste permit for the Missouri Press Metals facility, allowing the company to continue operating at its Sedalia facility.

The company, which is located at 1200 East Boonville Road in Sedalia, produces pressed metal bushings and bearings. The company is currently conducting corrective-action and remediation activities at the site under a department-issued Missouri Hazardous Waste Management Facility Part I Permit.

Missouri Press Metals submitted a permit application to the department to renew and update its existing hazardous waste permit in September 2023. Because Missouri Press Metals closed all the permitted hazardous waste units and no longer operates as a hazardous waste storage facility, the permit application was for post-closure and corrective-action activities only.

The department approved and issued a final permit after conducting a thorough technical review of the permit application and providing an opportunity for public comment. The permit allows Missouri Press Metals to continue monitoring groundwater conditions during annual sampling events, continue operating its groundwater extraction system and continue post-closure care of its closed landfill.

There were no comments made on the or draft permit during the public comment period. Any parties who are adversely affected or aggrieved by DNR’s decision to approve the proposed final remedy and issue the final permit, or by specific conditions of the final permit, may be entitled to pursue an appeal before the Administrative Hearing Commission by filing a written petition by June 27, 2025, as described in the permit.

Additional information about the permit are available at DNR’s website, or at the Sedalia Public Library.
