The Sedalia City Council approved several big-ticket purchases at their meeting Monday, June 2, including two wheel loaders for the water pollution control division.

Interim city manager Matthew Wirt says the city will see some significant savings from the purchases, including a new wheel loader for use at the city’s compost site.

The city will purchase the new Volvo wheel loader through the Sourcewell cooperative contract and trade in an old loader, bringing its price down to $204,345, while the lease buyout on the Caterpillar will total $72,975. The council approved the purchases by a 6-0 vote, with Lee Scribner absent.

The council also approved the purchase of six vehicles. The water pollution control division will purchase a new service truck from W-K Chevrolet totaling $67,521, while public works will purchase two plow trucks and two multi-function tandem trucks totaling $1,135,558.90 and the utilities division will purchase a tandem axle dump truck totaling $214,139. Sedalia will buy the vehicles from Premier Truck Group, through cooperative purchasing contracts with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

In other business, the council signed off on the close-out change order for the installation of a sewer line to WireCo from the Central Regional Lift Station, reflecting the project coming in under budget by $103,795. Wirt says the savings could be applied to any overruns that occur in other ongoing wastewater projects.

The council also approved an ordinance amending city code to allow marijuana dispensaries to remain open until 10 p.m., and for the annual renewal of the agreement with Sedalia Main Streets and Missouri Main Street Connection.
