The Smithton High School Girls Soccer team is gearing up for the start of the Class One State Tournament, with a semifinal match up against Blair Oak scheduled for Friday, June 6.

The Lady Tigers punched their ticket to the state tournament after winning the Class 1 District 3 tournament with a 1-0 win over Crocker on May 24. With almost two weeks to prepare for the state tournament, Smithton Coach Sean Hutchinson says his team has been studying film and breaking down the game plans of their opponent.
Smithton will face Blair Oaks in the semifinals on Friday, and then play again Saturday for either the championship or third place. Senior Captain Kenna Simmons notes how bittersweet is to see the season, and her high school career, come to a close after this weekend.
Hutchinson says this is the first time a Smithton soccer team has gotten this far in the playoffs in several decades. Senior Captain Whitney Grose says she is thankful for this season and the opportunity to compete for a championship.
Smithton’s 11 wins are the most since the girls program started in 2022. Friday’s semifinal against Blair Oaks begins at 10 a.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton. Elsberry/Silex is taking on Barstow on the other side of the bracket in Class 1.
