Saline County residents and business owners have an important document arriving in the mail over the next week from assessor Jessica Adcock Goodman.
Tax value impact statements will arrive soon, and Goodman says the impacts could show how much higher their real estate is valued as a result of a state-mandated re-evaluation of assessed valuations.
Goodman’s office sent a notice to real estate owners in January concerning the actions mandated by the State Tax Commission. She warns that the increase could be more dramatic for commercial real estate.
The impact statements will include instructions on how to begin the appeals process, first informally with the assessor’s office and then before the Board of Equalization. Goodman reminds taxpayers that the process must begin within 30 days.
Informal appeals can take place through Goodman’s office in the Saline County Courthouse, while scheduling for the Board of Equalization will take place through the county clerk’s office.
