The City of Sedalia is hosting public interviews with four candidates to determine who will fill the vacant City Council seat in Ward 1. The interviews will be held on Thursday, June 12, at the Municipal Building, located at 200 South Osage in Sedalia.
The Sedalia City Council will begin the event with a brief meeting from 5:30 to 6 p.m. The public interviews with the candidates will immediately follow. The city previously had an open call for applicants, where interested candidates could submit an application for further consideration. The city received four applicants during this process. The candidates involved in Thursday’s interview are Adam Porter, Cheryl Ames, Jason Michael Joy, and Virginia Kaye Brainard.
Community Engagement Director Jessica Hoffman says each of the candidates will be asked a series of questions submitted by residents and city personnel.
This interview portion is open to the public. Residents are encouraged to attend in person or watch via the City’s livestream to observe the process and hear directly from the candidates. Hoffman notes a decision will not be announced Thursday night.
Following the interviews, the Mayor may nominate one candidate to the City Council for approval. If no clear candidate is identified, the process will remain open until the right person is found.
