The Saline County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Warsaw man following a traffic stop on Highway 65 on Saturday, June 7.
A probable cause statement filed by the department reported that a law enforcement officer conducted a traffic stop on a white truck displaying unauthorized blue lights emitting from the front grill area. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Lee Hines, and immediately noticed a butane-style torch located next to his right leg and partially tucked beneath the vehicle’s center console. The officer also noted blistering and burns on Hine’s fingertips, as well multiple open sores, partially healed lesions, and scabbed-over marks on his arms and facial area, which typically result from chronic methamphetamine use.
A K9 unit was called to the scene to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle.
Authorities searched the vehicle and located multiple plastic bags containing methamphetamine. The total combined weight recovered was 75 grams. Other dug paraphernalia was also recovered, including baggies, glass pipes, and a digital scale. A set of metal knuckles was also found in the vehicle.
Hines has been charged with trafficking drugs in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held without bond.
Hines has an initial appearance at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9 at Saline County Circuit Court.
