The Johnson County Commission announces that the county offices currently located in the Johnson County Courthouse will temporarily relocate to the former Reese School while the courthouse undergoes a major renovation project.

Following an extensive design phase and competitive bidding process, the County Commission has awarded the contract to Straub Construction Company, Inc., of Shawnee, KS. The 1896 building will receive updates to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, a new central heating and cooling system (HVAC), new windows, repairs to exterior masonry, improvements to the deteriorating west entrance, and an upgraded ADA-compliant accessible entrance. The estimated cost of the project is $7.8 million, which will be funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Construction is expected to take approximately twelve to fifteen months to complete.

County offices will gradually move to the Reese School location and citizens needing to do business with any of these offices are encouraged to call ahead to ensure services are available during the move.

Auditor and Treasurer offices moving the week of June 9th, the Recorder of Deeds office is moving June 17-20, the Public Administrator’s office is moving June 23-25, and Commissioners, County Clerk, Human Resources, Elections/Voter Registration, and Johnson County Economic Development are moving July 1-3.

The Justice Center and the South Annex will not be affected by the renovations.
