The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen held a discussion over rate increases for water and sewer rates during its meeting on Monday, June 9.
City Clerk Michelle Fuehring stated the need for the increase was because the city had received an increase from the Water District. This would be the first increase in cubic foot rates for water since 2019, and sewer since 2018.
After some discussion, the board decided to raise water rates by $.50 for the base and $.1100 per cubic foot for anything over 133 cubic feet. The board also increased sewer rates $.50 for the base and $.030 per cubic foot after the first 133.
Aldermen approved both readings of ordinances to establish the updated rates.
In other news, the board gave approval to the Sweet Springs Restoration Foundation to hold a car show in the city park on September 7. In the event of rain, the event would be held in the downtown area instead.
