A first-inning home run by Aaron Judge quickly set the stage for the New York Yankees’ 10-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, June 10 at Kauffman Stadium, as the Royals’ young talent had no answer to the current AL East leaders.

Judge’s home run with one out in the first inning made it starter Noah Cameron’s rockiest outing in his young career. Despite going on to strike out the slugger in the following at-bats for two of his six Ks, Cameron ended up allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk during his 5.2 innings. Three of those runs came in the fourth inning, when Austin Wells sent a full-count, two-out pitch to right field. Wells would also bring home a pair of runs in the sixth inning with a double off reliever Taylor Clarke, sparking a five-run inning that put the game out of reach.

Jac Caglianone picked up an RBI in his first plate appearance at Kauffman Stadium, producing a groundout that scored Vinnie Pasquantino in the second inning. Jonathan India’s home run in the sixth was the only other Royal run, as Max Fried claimed his ninth win of the season. He went seven innings and allowed six hits while striking out four.

The Royals are now 34-33, 1.5 games behind Minnesota for the third wild card spot and 9.5 games behind Detroit for the AL Central. Kris Bubic will get the start for the Royals on Wednesday evening in the middle match of the series; first pitch is at 6:40 p.m., with pregame beginning at 6 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
