A Wooldridge man is facing domestic assault charges following his arrest Tuesday, June 10 in Cooper County.
According to a probable cause statement, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the county just before 9 p.m. Tuesday. Upon their arrival, one of the deputies found 61-year-old Donald C Rybolt leaning into a parked vehicle, with a woman sitting in the back passenger seat with blood all over her right arm. The statement goes on to cite witnesses alleging that Rybolt had stabbed the woman a couple times, and also punched her, after she began to move her belongings out of the house.
The witnesses added that Rybolt and the woman got into an argument over a cell phone, which led to a physical confrontation. During that confrontation, Rybolt allegedly punched the woman, then reached into the vehicle as it was attempting to leave. The statement accuses Rybolt of reaching into the vehicle and stabbing the woman, who was later identified in the statement as having been in a romantic relationship with Rybolt for several months. Deputies say they located a silver pocketknife on Rybolt when they arrested him. They noted that Rybolt was bleeding from his hand and ear, which Rybolt said was from the woman biting him during the argument.
The woman was treated at a Columbia hospital, while Rybolt faces charges of first degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. He’s being held in the Cooper County Jail on $250,000 bond. A court date has not yet been set.
