The St Louis Cardinals bats woke up Saturday, June 14 at American Family Field, as each member of the starting lineup had a hit in the Cardinals’ 8-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Alec Burleson started the scoring early with a single to center field in the first that scored Masyn Winn. The first of three runs in the fourth was brought home by Jordan Walker with a fielders’ choice that turned into a throwing error. Two batters later, Victor Scott II sent a line drive to left field that scored the next two runs. The Brewers got on the board in the home half of the inning with a leadoff triple from Jackson Chourio, who then came home on a passed ball. Nolan Gorman extended the lead in the fifth with a three-run blast to center field. However, the Brewers would immediately respond, first with Sal Frelick’s double scoring two, and a Chourio single bringing Frelick home.

The scoring was capped with solo home runs by Willson Contreras in the top of the ninth and his brother William in the bottom of the ninth. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the two become the second pair of brothers to hit home runs in the same inning as opponents, with the feat first achieved on July 19, 1933 by Wes and Rick Ferrell. Wes hit his home run for the Cleveland Indians in the top of the fourth inning, only to deliver the pitch that Rick sent over the fence at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox.

Andre Pallante finished Saturday’s game short of five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Kyle Leahy earned the win for the Cardinals, allowing just one hit and one walk in 1.1 innings while striking out two. The Cardinals are now 37-34, six games behind the Cubs in the NL Central and two games behind San Diego for the third wild card spot.

The Cardinals can overtake Milwaukee for second in the division with a win Sunday afternoon. Miles Mikolas will get the start, with first pitch at 1:10 p.m.
