The Kansas City Royals found themselves unable to win at home, dropping their sixth straight game after losing late to the Athletics 3-2 on Sunday, June 15 at Kauffman Stadium.

The Athletics, who entered the series last in the AL West, accounted for all six home runs in the weekend series, including a two-run blast by Austin Wynns in the sixth inning that tied the game, and Nick Kurtz’ leadoff home run in the ninth that proved to be the game-winner. The Royals had grabbed the lead in the third inning when Bobby Witt Jr doubled in Kyle Isbel, then was brought home on a single by Vinnie Pasquantino. The Royals nearly took the lead in the eighth when Pasquantino sent a fly ball to deep left center; however, Danzel Clarke made a play at the wall to deny the score.

Noah Cameron ended up with a no-decision after going five innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven. John Schreiber suffered his first blown save of the season when he gave up the home run to Wynns, while Carlos Estévez took the loss.

The Royals failed to win a game during their recent six-game home stand and now sit 34-38, three games behind Seattle for the third wild card spot. Everyone else in the AL Central also lost Sunday, keeping the Royals 11.5 games behind Detroit. It’s a travel day today for KC, as they will head to Texas for the start of a three-game series Tuesday against the Rangers.
