Sedalia Mayor Andrew Dawson is expected to announce who he plans to appoint to fill the vacant first ward councilman position on the Sedalia City Council at the beginning of the Monday, June 16 council meeting.

According to the agenda, Dawson will announce his recommendation to the council, who will then vote on the appointment. If approved, the new council member will be sworn in to begin the remainder of the term vacated by Tom Oldham, who resigned days after being sworn in for a new term in April. The seat will also appear on next April’s ballot to fill the second year of the term. Four applicants for the position—Cheryl Ames, Virginia Brainard, Jason Joy, and Adam Porter—took part in a public interview process Thursday evening during a council work session.

The council will also consider a professional services agreement with Wilson and Company to provide design and inspection services for intersection improvements at U.S. Route 65, Route B and 32nd Street. A rezoning request and final plat for the Autumn Creek Development is also on the agenda, along with two agreements for funds from the Paul Bruhn Revitalization Grant, and a license agreement for the city to commission a mural on the south side of the building at 608 S. Ohio.

Not included on Monday’s printed agenda is the selection of a new city administrator. At Saturday’s sidewalk groundbreaking ceremony, second ward councilwoman Tina Boggess had announced that the council was planning to remove the interim tag from Matthew Wirt, who has served in the role since December. However, the council is slated to enter into closed session Monday to discuss personnel as well as legal advice, negotiated contracts, and real estate.
