
A confined docket hearing is scheduled for a man allegedly involved in a Columbia shooting that left a man dead on Sunday, June 15.
According to a probable cause statement, a man called Boone County Joint Communications (BCJC) to report being robbed and hit in the face with a gun at around 7:50 p.m. The victim stated he was chasing the suspects in his vehicle on Sunrise Drive in Columbia, when gun shots were heard on the 911 call. BCJC then received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area.
Columbia Police responded to the scene and found the victim deceased in the driver’s seat his vehicle after it ran into a property on Sunrise Drive. Police located video footage in downtown Columbia capturing evidence of four individuals robbing the victim at gun point minutes before the shooting. The four suspects then left in a vehicle, which is was when the victim started giving chase.
The suspects were located and identified by police. The only suspect facing public charges at this time is Steven Paden, who has been charged with murder in the second degree, robbery in the first degree, and armed criminal action. He is being held on a no bond warrant.
Paden had an initial appearance on Wednesday, June 18. Paden is next due for a confined docket hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 26. A preliminary hearing is also scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 15.
