No injuries were reported after emergency crews responded to a semi trailer fire west of Sweet Springs early Tuesday, June 17.
Firefighters with the West Central Fire District responded around 3 a.m. to the report of a fire along the westbound lanes of Interstate 70, about a half-mile west of Sweet Springs. According to a post on the district’s Facebook page, the trailer contained “very flammable material”. Crews took about seven hours to extinguish the flames and secure the trailer and its contents. Traffic on westbound I-70 was diverted to an outer road to allow first responders to access the scene. The district commended the Sweet Springs Ambulance District, Sweet Springs Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the sheriff’s departments for both Saline and Lafayette counties for their assistance.
