A man wanted in connection to a homicide is dead, and a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper injured, following a crash and shooting in southwestern Saline County on Tuesday, June 17.
The Patrol says they received word from Concordia Police around 6:15 p.m. that they had spotted a motorcycle driven by a man that matched the description of a suspect wanted for an out-of-state homicide. Officers had lost sight of the vehicle outside Emma, but spotted the suspect just before 8 p.m. westbound on 115th Road. Soon after, troopers say the motorcycle crashed into a trooper’s patrol vehicle near the intersection of 115th and Belmont Avenue.
The Patrol notes that the chase then continued on foot, resulting in the suspect opening fire on the trooper. The trooper was struck in his bullet-resistant vest, then returned fire, wounding the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, while the trooper was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says their investigation into the situation continues, and that any reports will be forwarded to the Saline County Prosecuting Attorney’s office for review.
