The Brunswick City Council will allocate funds to pursue the purchase of lots that may go on the auction block at this August’s delinquent property tax sale.
City Clerk Sarah Clubine tells KMMO News that the council agreed Tuesday night to make up to $30,000 available for the city to pursue properties that may appear on the bill for the annual sale organized by the Chariton County Collector. Clubine says the city has learned of 11 properties whose owners are delinquent on their taxes, but that the number may decrease as those owners settle their bills over the next two months. The tax sale is scheduled for the morning of Aug. 25 at the Chariton County Courthouse in Keytesville.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Brunswick City Council finalized their budget for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. Clubine also reported that the city hired a new police officer, pending completion of a background check. She adds that Brunswick will have its annual Fourth of July fireworks display the evening of June 29 at the city park.
