Maikel Garcia went three-for-four with four RBI to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 6-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, July 18 at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
A Jonathan India single in the third sparked the Royals offense, which was capped in the inning by Garcia’s eighth home run of the year, a three-run shot to left center field that put the Royals ahead for good. Garcia added an RBI triple in the eighth and came home on a sacrifice bunt from John Rave. A single in the fifth and pop-out to end the first left Garcia a double shy of the cycle.
The Rangers had struck early, with Wyatt Langford and Adolis García picking up RBIs in the bottom of the first. Texas would claw a run back in the fourth to make it 4-3, but despite outhitting the Royals 12-7, Texas stranded nine runners on base and grounded into a double play, while one base runner was caught stealing. Kris Bubic recorded six strikeouts but gave up nine hits in the win, allowing the three runs along with one walk in his five-and-a-third innings. Carlos Estévez secured his 20th save of the season.
The Royals are 36-38, 11 games behind Detroit in the AL Central and two games behind Cleveland for the third wild card spot. They’ll attempt to claim the road sweep Thursday afternoon, with Michael Wacha getting the start. Pregame on KMMO AM 1300 is at 1 p.m., with first pitch at 1:35 p.m.
