The Kansas City Royals jumped out to a four-run lead, but needed a late-inning rally to take down the San Diego Padres 6-5 at Petco Park on Friday, June 20.

Jonathan India cracked the game open in the fifth, launching a three-run home run to left field to make it 4-0 Royals.

Royals pitching finally started to show some cracks in the fifth, as Michael Lorenzen allowed runs in the fifth and sixth. Lorenzen lasted 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with four punchouts.

Lucas Erceg permitted a game-tying two-run single from Gavin Sheets, erasing Kansas City’s advantage.

Salvador Perez put the Royals back on top with a go-ahead RBI single. Drew Waters added some insurance with an RBI single of his own, the eventual game-winner.

Manny Machado hit a solo homer in the ninth, but Carlos Estevez still secured his MLB-leading 22nd save.

The Royals get back to .500 with the win, improving to 38-38. The Royals are now second in the AL Central, tied with the Guardians, and 9.5 games back of Detroit. The series will continue today. Pregame will begin at 5:30 p.m., with first pitch at 6:15 on KMMO FM 102.9.
