The Kansas City Current have agreed to a three-year extension with forward Michelle Cooper that will keep her in teal until 2028.
Cooper joined the Current as the second overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, fresh off two seasons with Duke. Her rookie season saw her net three goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal in the Current’s first-ever win over the Portland Thorns. Earlier that season she recorded the fastest goal in NWSL history, scoring on Washington just 22 seconds into their June 2023 tilt. This season Cooper has scored four goals and two assists, helping the Current maintain a perfect 6-0-0 record at home and first in the NWSL halfway through the season. Cooper also made her debut for the U.S. Women’s National Team in February, then scored the game-winner in a contest against Australia.
The Kansas City Current entered the halfway break of the season on a six-game winning streak, most recently defeating Angel City FC 1-0. The Current will host their Teal Rising Cup beginning July 12th, when Brazilian side Palmeiras pay a visit to CPKC Stadium. The Chicago Stars will face Corinthians in the other matchup that night.
