police-12-15

A Marshall man was arraigned Monday, June 23 on charges that he led police on a chase after discharging his firearm in the city.

30-year-old Brandon Johnson is facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon by shooting from a moving vehicle, and aggravated fleeing from law enforcement. According to Marshall Police, an officer heard gunshots around 1 a.m. Sunday, then spotted a motorcycle traveling south on S. Lafayette at a high speed. The officer gave chase, noting in their probable cause statement that the driver, identified as Johnson, allegedly failed to stop at any posted sign, or when the officer’s emergency lights were activated. The chase ended at a residence on the 200 block of E. Black, where Johnson was detained.

Officers say they found on Johnson a semi-automatic handgun with one live round in the chamber and eight more in the magazine. Another five cartridge casings were recovered from the intersection of S. Lafayette and Yerby, which officers say matched the bullets recovered from the gun.

Johnson is being held in the Saline County Jail on $15,000 cash-only bond.  A confined docket hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Saline County Circuit Court.
