police-arrest-2

A Marshall man was arrested following a scuffle with police on Tuesday, June 24.

Saline County E911 reports receiving a call about a suspicious person on East Eastwood knocking on doors and pushing a shopping cart containing shotguns. Officers arrived and made contact with the subject, identified as John Robert Hooper.

Officers observed weapons in the cart and attempted to secure them. Hooper then attempted to gain possession of one of the firearms the officer laid on the ground, leading to a struggle and causing the shotgun to be discharged into the ground.

Officers were able to secure Hooper and located a glass pipe containing Methamphetamine residue and shotgun ammunition in the pocket of his pants. While inventorying Hooper’s shopping cart, it was discovered that he had a homemade explosive device and a homemade incendiary device.

Authorities also executed a search warrant at Hooper’s residence, recovering baggies of methamphetamine, epi-pens prescribed to Marshall Public Schools, drug paraphernalia, multiple pieces of copper believed to be taken from Eastwood Elementary School, a Lenovo computer owned by Marshall Public Schools, NEC Projector belonging to the Marshall Public Schools, multiple wi-fi antennas and two incendiary devises made of glass fuel bottles.

Hooper has been charged with felonies for assault in the first degree, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of an illegal weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. No bond has been allowed.

An initial appearance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Saline County Circuit Court.
