The Marshall Municipal Utilities Board of Public Works reviewed four bids for a switchgear replacement at the Miami #1 Substation during its meeting Wednesday, June 25.
The substation has a 15 kilovolt (kV) metal-clad switchgear lineup with nine 15 kV breakers and an auxiliary switch. Of the four bids received, only one came in under the $1,500,000 budget. The board voted to accept the bid from Siemens for a new Siemens building enclosure and switchgear lineup at a total cost of $1,486,328.
The board also approved a bid from CR Fence out of Concordia to install 374 feet of chain link fence around the green space located on the south side of MMU’s Crescent property. The bid came in at a little more than $17,000.
The Board of Public Works also briefly spoke about Tuesday’s power outage, which affected residents in the northern part of Marshall. MMU says the outage was due to a substation trip. MMU is still investigating what tripped the substation, but crews were restore power by 3 p.m.
