The Kansas City Royals once again struggled to get any offense going, falling 4-0 as the Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep.
This time, the Royals were blanked by Shane Baz, who fanned nine over eight innings, allowing just three hits and a walk.
Royals starter Michael Lorenzen got off to a good start, striking out the side in the first inning. Tampa Bay was finally able to break through in the fourth, as Jake Mangum smacked an RBI triple and Josh Lowe drilled an RBI single to make it 2-0.
The Rays added to their lead in the sixth with a pair of solo homers off the bats of Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero. Lorenzen finished his outing going 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.
Kansas City’s offensive woes continue, as the Royals only mustered five hits in the game, two each from Vinnie Pasquantino and Jonathan India, and one from Maikel Garcia.
The Royals fall to 38-43 on the season, now fourth in the division and 12.5 games back of the first-place Tigers. The Royals will look to rebound when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-games series. Noah Cameron is expected to make the start.
