25-0306-bichsel-clock

A piece of Sedalia history is making it way back downtown, as crews will spend the next several days reinstalling the historic Bichsel Clock.

The City of Sedalia has announced that crews will conduct electric work beginning Thursday, June 26 on the 200 block of South Ohio to support the reinstallation of the clock, which previously stood in front of the original location of the longtime jewelry store. Work will primarily take place in the sidewalk areas, with trucks and equipment occupying nearby parking spaces. Crews may need to close the sidewalk and even lanes of traffic on South Ohio as necessary to stage equipment. The city advises residents and visitors to use caution in the area and plan ahead to avoid delays.

The 140-year-old clock followed Bichsel Jewelry when the store moved to a new location in the western part of Sedalia. The business closed earlier this year following the retirement of its owner, and donated the clock to the city, allowing for its return to the downtown area.
