An Independence man sustained moderate injury after his pickup was struck by a train early Sunday, June 29 in Napoleon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the 57-year-old driver of the pickup was attempting to cross the Union Pacific tracks to get onto Route 224 near Maple Lane in Napoleon. Troopers say the truck was not at a crossing and got stuck in mud. The truck was unable to move out of the path of an eastbound locomotive, resulting in the collision just after 1 a.m. Sunday. The pickup’s driver was taken to a Kansas City area hospital.
