As of Tuesday, July 1, the Show-Me State is now home to two programs in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Missouri State University has made its move from the Missouri Valley Conference to Conference USA, joining Delaware as the two newest members of the FBS. The move was announced in May of last year, when the Bears accepted an invitation to join the Group of Five league. Later this year they’ll welcome to Springfield new conference foes from New Mexico State and Texas-El Paso to Florida International and Liberty University of Virginia.

13 Bears teams will compete in Conference USA, including their beach volleyball program that already had affiliate membership. Men’s soccer will compete in the American Athletic Conference, while the swimming and diving teams will remain affiliated with the Missouri Valley Conference, where Missouri State had been a full member since 1990. Missouri State had previously spent 70 years as a founding member of the MIAA, which now competes in NCAA’s Division Two.
