Two home runs by Randy Arozarena, including the 100th of his career, lifted the Seattle Mariners past the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Monday, June 30 at T-Mobile Park.

Arozarena’s solo home run in the fourth inning marked the career milestone for the outfielder, in the process tying the game after Bobby Witt Jr singled in Kyle Isbel to open the scoring in the third. Seattle blew the game open in the fifth inning when, after a sacrifice fly by Cal Raleigh to give the Mariners the lead, Arozarena launched a three-run line drive over the center field fence. Raleigh added to his AL-leading home run total with his 33rd blast of the season in the seventh. The Royals loaded the bases in the eighth, but could only bring one run home on a grounder by Witt.

The Royals were limited to four hits and one walk, as George Kirby struck out five across six innings for his second win of the season. Michael Wacha allowed five of Seattle’s runs in five innings, also giving up eight hits and two walks while striking out one.

The Royals are now 39-46, 5.5 games behind Seattle for the third wild card and 14 games behind Detroit in the AL Central. Game two of the series is Tuesday evening at 8:40 p.m., with Michael Lorenzen getting the start. Pregame begins at 8 p.m. on KMMO-FM 102.9.
